There are few reasons “Due Date” shouldn’t succeed. The comedy has so much going for it: one of Hollywood’s most recognizable leading men, the hottest comedy star of the past few years, and the director behind the comedic masterwork, “The Hangover.” Even with all these pieces in place, however, the film feels like a rest stop for Zach Galifianakis on the road between “The Hangover” and its sequel, which is set to come out in May. A majority of the criticism toward “Due Date” isn’t fiery; critics are just disappointed that a film that should be comic gold is merely comic bronze. It has its moments, but ultimately, it just feels like a lazy effort. Reviews have been mixed — it has a score of 43% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 54 on Metacritic.

Another Hangover was too much to hope for, especially as this was scripted by committee. It’s a bit funny but also quite a bit nasty. (Empire)
