Hopefully, something like the woefully-reviewed ‘You Again’ will never happen again (opens today in wide release)

It’s a real shame to see a movie featuring Betty White, Kristen Bell, and Sigourney Weaver get panned. Unfortunately, the script for this wedding comedy is everything but comedic, so even a cast as talented as this can’t make something out of nothing. “You Again” revolves around a wedding during which several female guests confront old enemies. What you end up with is a hodgepodge of the wedding and high school comedy genres, yet the mix produces very few laughs. Critics seem to have come to a consensus: never again. Reviews have been negative across the board — the film has a score of 29 on Metacritic and a 16% on Rotten Tomatoes.

“The movie is so laboriously contrived in every atom of its being that the only interest is in seeing if the characters can avoid the destinies decreed for them by ancient formulas.” (Chicago Sun-Times)

“A parallel track for two generations of women to play out petty grudges and pratfall their way through the mud and muck to the inevitable group hug.” (LA Times)

Opening today in wide release.

  1. I definitely knew about most of this, but having said that, I still think it is useful. Great job!
